Detective Mark Upton is stuck in a rut. Even his boss recognizes he’s just on autopilot and, after solving a major case, sends him off on a sabbatical to go and rediscover his passion. Untethered from his job, he finds himself using his free time to hang out with the same artist who was robbed; a man named Aris Kahn. Aris is handsome, fun, and completely different from anyone that Mark has ever met. He seems determined to open up Mark’s world and Mark loves every minute of it. There’s just one problem Aris is with Clive, a strange young man who has odd rules about their relationship. When Mark confronts Aris with the possibility that his relationship with Clive is not what it seems, everything changes. With Aris suddenly single, Mark finally has the chance to pursue him honestly and openly. Mark, however, is still a cop and still very suspicious of Clive, particularly when he shows up to a big unveiling of Aris’ work acting a little too strange for Detective Mark’s taste. Please Note This book contains Adult Language & Steamy Adult Activities, it is intended for 18+ Adults Only. Novella, approx. 30,000+ words in length. HEA (happy ever after ending). Does not end with a "cliffhanger".

The Art of Love Max Hudson Books Reviews

This is a short story about Mark, a gay detective who lives a solid if humdrum life. He solves crimes and yet living on the edge has become routine for him. No loves of his life or dates, he is sent on a vacation to find himself, before he burns out. Solving an art thief before being sent on this "sabbatical," he meets Aris. These men have an instant pull and except for Aris's boyfriend Clive, nothing stands in their way. Mark is suspicious, Aris is oblivious and Clive is just sneaky. Following these men on the path of romance is worth the quick read. A sweet romance with a little action to keep the reader entertained. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
Take a fairly rigid gay cop, throw in an artistic, free spirited love interest, and all the drama of the gay art subculture, and you have the basis for this fun romantic romp. The characters are involving, there is a bit of mystery to the plot, and some steamy sex scenes to fill your quiet evening at home. I enjoyed this book quite a lot, and recommend it to anyone looking for a light-hearted read.

I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
this is a sweet story of a growing relationship between detective Mark Upton and artist Aris Kahn. They meet after 3 controversial paintings are stolen from Aris' studio. Intriguing storyline with starts, stops and pauses in the relationship as most new relationships have. Aris has a live in boyfriend who Detective Upton has a hunch is not on the up and up. I don't want to give too much of the story away but this is definitely a must read. Even one of the secondary characters gets a decent HEA. I would have given 5 stars but it seemed that the flow of the story was off a little but I can't quit define how. "I received a free advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest & unbiased review."
Something about the blurb caught my attention. And the book doesn't disappoint. It has a mystery, and psychics, and odd, quirky characters. It has people pretending to be who they are not and people pretty much losing their marbles. I am not kidding, this book has a lot!

The writing is good. There are very well written moments such as Aris asking Mark if he is angry (and all that comes after that part). Trust me, it's adorable. The plot is....mostly I'd say cute. At one point I felt like we took a turn into bad middle-school short story writing because the plot development at that point was not worked through via enough dialogue or character inner dialogue. But it was a short book and so I get it. And overall, even with that one brow-furrowing moment, I liked the story. I rate it 3.75 stars.
Mark Upton, a detective, needs a break from work, and his boss makes him take two weeks off. Mark was drawn to artist, Aris, after he was robbed. Mark and his partner solved the case, and on his first day off, he sees Aris. The little group of artsy folks are interesting, and besides Aris, Mark is friends with Blanche the poet. His vacation is filled with excitement, different events, and he's having fun. Aris lives with Clive and are boyfriends, so Aris is off limits to Mark. He doesn't approve of the open relationship. Something about Clive bothers him. Mark's analytical cop brain figures out Clive's game. Now he and Aris can try to be together. This is an interesting tale of a man opening up himself for new people and thoughts, and it changed him.
Max Hudson's characters are layered and fun to follow.

Awesome
I always enjoy reading books by Max Hudson. This was no exception. Excellent story line with just the right amount of twists. Good mix of characters. Good job of combining the worlds of police work and the arts.
